Background Workshop on Development of APEC Green Technology Network is a part of the implementation of the Project on Green Technology Initiative: Establishing Green Technology Innovation Network to Support SME Development. Economic growth and job creation in APEC’s member markets can be bolstered by enhancing the competitiveness of SMEs through the promotion the use of new technologies by SMEs and supporting the growth of green SMEs to thrive in a green growth economy. As such systematic endeavors to provide supporting facilities and access to information of the best green technology and green technology-based products and services to SMEs amongst the APECs member economies will help SMEs to improve its business process, productivity, innovation capacity which will lead to its competitiveness. Facilitation of access to market through development of appropriate networking programs will encourage business exchange amongst green technology-based SMEs in APEC member economies. In addition to its alignment to those APEC key priorities, this project is also as a follow up of Recommendation agreed at APEC International Training and Workshop on Green Technology Based Incubators in Indonesia in 2011, that is, the need to establish the so-called “APEC Center for Green Technology SMEs” so as to help SMEs to access, adopt, and promote green technology and green technology products and services from amongst APEC member economies and elsewhere, This project is aimed at developing technology and business networks amongst SMEs and also between SMEs and technology providers in the region. As such, development of database and appropriate network program is amongst the SMEs and between SMEs and technology providers in the region become necessity. Finally, cooperation from other APEC member economies to implement this project can be developed as this has been also high priority agenda in many member economies. This project will enhance the capacity of APEC developing economies through joint development and utilization of green technology database so as to enable green technology based SMEs to access green technology and green products from other APEC member economies; promote green technology based products to other member economies and non-member economies; Annual APEC Green Technology Network Forum hosted alternately by member economies will provide SMEs in each member economies to expose its green technology and products to a wider market in efficient and effective ways. This Workshop on Development of APEC Green Technology Network for SMEs is designed to support development of an effective network for SMEs in this region. Objectives • To create green technology innovation network to support SMEs around APEC member economies in accessing green technology innovation to further enhance their competitiveness; • To develop an online resource centre on green technology and green products for SMEs • To develop a mechanism on how to manage a sustainable green technology network forum amongst SMEs in the APEC member economies • To encourage exchange of proven green technology and green products APEC member economies Venue and DateVenue : Westin Hotel, Nusa Dua, Bali, INDONESIA Date : 5-6, March 2013 Participants This workshop will be attended by representatives of APEC member economies nominated by focal points. Each of the representatives will present country report containing at least five green technology-based products, five green SMEs, fie proven green technology, and five green technology R&D institutions. The project will provide air ticket and accommodation during the Workshop for ane participant from each of eligible APEC member economies. It is therefore requested that Focal Point to nominate a delegate from each member economies to participate in this Workshop and send the nomination to the Organizing Committee before February 1, 2013.
